HEAVY FEELINGS meets TOUCHING BASS #2
London’s Touching Bass coming back for their second time on German soil alongside Cologne’s Heavy Feelings, bringing their shared community-come-club night spirit to Open Ground’s Annex for a session rich in groove.
The HF-TB stars align for the first time with special guest MARYISONACID (AFRICANACIDISTHEFUTURE, Berlin) meeting founders Parissa Charghi (Heavy Feelings) and Errol (Touching Bass) behind the booth. Open Ground has been consistently cosigned as one of the best new clubs on the planet — in sound, feeling and intention — making it the perfect landing pad for these two heart-led movements who value those same things dearly.
Errol is one of the UK’s most compelling, contemporary musical voices: DJ/broadcaster, music curator (prev. White Cube/Frieze, 180 Strand and Boiler Room), consultant, writer/host and founder of musical movement, Touching Bass. Underpinning it all is a passion for promoting the eclecticism of Black music as well as the culture and community behind it, with roots firmly anchored in his Caribbean heritage.
His DJ sets are known for feeling beautifully loose, searching and soulful; unrestricted by genre and anchored by groove. Over the past few years, the London-born artist has increasingly shared music further afield and in good company: from gracing Berlin’s Panorama Bar/Berghain and multiple tours of Australia, Japan and New Zealand, to playing alongside esteemed genre-hoppers like Theo Parrish, Josey Rebelle and Gilles Peterson. Along the way, there have also been wheel-ups on King Jammy’s legendary dancehall soundsystem in Kingston, as well as warm-up slots for the likes of Erykah Badu, Tony Allen (RIP), Flying Lotus and Yussef Dayes.
At the helm of Touching Bass, he has steadily established one of London’s most important musical incubators alongside his partner, Alex Rita. For the past six years, it has quietly gained cult status for its intention, community spirit and musical eclecticism. More than just an innovative South London-based club night, NTS Radio staple, record label, concert series and curatorial studio, Touching Bass has slow-cooked to become a meeting ground for music lovers and some of the most exciting contemporary and well-respected artists both in the capital and beyond.
Maryama Luccioni, known by her stage name Maryisonacid, is a French-Congolese DJ, promoter, curator, and the founder of the African Acid Is The Future label and party based in Berlin. With a distinctive approach to DJing, Maryisonacid seamlessly blends diasporic African sounds with groovy electronic tracks and techno, a style deeply influenced by her upbringing in Paris’s Barbès district and her involvement in Berlin’s eclectic and diverse party scene.
Maryisonacid’s passion for music is the cornerstone of her sets, transforming each listening experience into a unique and cinematic journey. She defies traditional DJ set conventions by incorporating elements of her heritage and traditions, infusing her performances with an experimental, punk ethos. “From Afro to Techno, and everything in between,” she approaches music in her own unapologetic way, ensuring no genre is outside the limits of her skills. Versatile as can be, you will find her spinning records at an art gallery just as much as at a steamy Berlin club.
